Meet your teacher: Sophie
I was born and raised in France and have been living abroad for the past 30 years (presently in Canada, before that in Spain and the UAE). French is my mother tongue and I am fluent in Spanish and English – two languages I learnt by taking classes and living in a country where they were spoken.
In 2007, I followed my passion for languages and entered the world of translation. I obtained the DipTrans diploma in translation and became a Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL) in 2014.
With Covid and the emergence of machine translation, the need arose to find additional opportunities. I took a part-time job as a French Teacher for a language school and it was a real eye-opener. This was what I wanted to do: teach, help people learn a new skill, a new language. So, I decided to invest in it and in 2021, I signed up for a 480-hour online training in teaching French as a second language with CNED/Alliance Française Paris. Since then, I have been teaching French non-stop.
I have given over 5000 hours of classes to adult learners. My students range from complete beginners to advanced speakers; individuals who need to learn French for their day to day lives or to get a job; to obtain a permit or to advance in their careers; to correct their pronunciation, improve their writing skills, ameliorate their fluency or feel more confident.
I have prepared individuals to take TEF/TEFAQ/TCF exams in various competencies: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.
Like you, I had to learn a foreign language. Like many of you, I have been immersed in new cultures and had to adapt to new codes and different languages. I can relate.
As my student, your success and well-being are very important to me. I strive to make you feel comfortable and confident when expressing yourself, to ensure you enjoy the class and leave with the feeling that you have made progress. My goal is for you to be able to use your skills outside the classroom, thanks to the knowledge and confidence you have gained.
